threshold occupation

Imagine an architectural language that derives from observations of air flows through tectonic barriers. The so generated field varies in turbulence, velocity and consequently in all parameters of thermal comfort that are affected by air. The geometry derives and responds simultaneously to the outcome of the digital simulations. Inhabitable spaces are nestled in the wake zones of the flow pattern, occupying hospitable territory on the heterogeneous field. This zone allows for more stable conditions and hosts permanent functions and vegetation. The barrier’s surface is covered with performative layers that can alter the air flow’s parameters. Wet surfaces cool the air through evaporation, heated surfaces create pockets of comfort during cold seasons and other materials are applied to withdraw moisture form the air. The surface’s intricacy varies accordingly to establish a complex system of thermal mass, reacting to external environmental conditions.
